Finding Theatre Near You

If you're looking for opportunities to work in theatre or just for a show to sit back and enjoy, there are probably more options in your own city than you would think. Theatre and the arts are everywhere for those that are willing to look for it and sometimes you can find very high-level productions for a very low price. In this article we'll talk about how you can find theatre near your Vancouver or Oshawa homes and how to get involved if you so choose.

Your public library and community posting boards are great ways to find out about all of the local productions. Many times poster ads are all that a company can afford in terms of advertising and they don't have the funds or the time to build a major website or take out an ad in the newspaper. If you're interested in seeing a large professional production away from your neighborhood of Streetsville homes, you'll likely be able to look the company up online. But if it's a newer or amateur company, it's better to go back to the basics.

Summer stock theatre is also a great choice of entertainment for those that don't live in Condos for Rent Toronto and have access to all of the productions available in larger cities. There is a company called ASTRO that lists all of the summer stock companies in Ontario for anyone who's interested. If you're not in that area, you can do a general search online for summer theatre in your own region. These are generally high quality professional shows and can even match those that the people in Toronto real estate listings are seeing. They frequently feature actors and designers from the larger theatre centres who like to escape the city life for the summer.

If you'd like to work in theatre it's best to start with community theatre productions. Once you've found a company you want to work with, search the poster or website for any phone number. Give them a call and ask who the producer of the show is. This is the person you want to contact if you want to get involved. They may not have anything available for their current show, but are usually always looking for enthusiastic people to work backstage. Whether you're living in Mississauga condos or in Regina, there's likely a community theatre in your area.

Once you have a few community credits on your resume, you can start applying to summer stock theatres as a summer apprentice. This means that you will be shadowing and assisting one of the backstage technicians for the summer. With some companies this is a fulltime summer job with an hourly wage. Others may just be able to offer you a stipend for your work at the end of the production.
